The Bombay High Court Tuesday came down heavily on the Maharashtra government and police while it was hearing a plea by the father of the 23-year-old janitor accused in the Badlapur sexual abuse case, who was shot dead in alleged retaliatory firing after he opened fire at a police team to escape custody. The court asserted, “We want truth, we expect the investigation to be fair and impartial, even if police involved.” It also said, “sealing of crime scene at very spot is very essential to avoid all further complications and speculations.” The father of the deceased is seeking a probe into the alleged ‘fake encounter’ of his son.
Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in Mumbai on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded an orange alert for the city. In the neighbouring district of Raigad, a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall), alongside thunderstorm and lightning, has been sounded for today. The orange alert will be in place until Thursday morning in Mumbai, while in Thane, it will remain in place until Friday.
In other news, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Nashik and Kolhapur on Wednesday, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said last week. “His guidance will energise party workers and ensure the Mahayuti (comprising BJP, Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP) retains power in Maharashtra, Bawankule asserted. Polls are likely to be held in the state in November.
