Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee, has criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s proposal to create a separate memorial in Delhi for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night at AIIMS Delhi.
Sharmistha pointed out that when her father passed away, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) did not even convene a condolence meeting.
In a post on social media platform X, she wrote, “When Baba passed away, Congress didn’t bother to call a CWC meeting for a condolence resolution.” She also accused the Congress leadership of misleading her on this matter. According to her, a senior Congress leader had told her that such meetings are not held for former Presidents of India.
She dismissed this reasoning as baseless and claimed that from her father’s diaries, she learned that when former President K.R. Narayanan passed away, the CWC held a meeting, and the condolence message was drafted by none other than Pranab Mukherjee himself.
